Cameron Rodgers – Johnson (b. 2001), is an African American composer, arranger, and educator from Birmingham, Alabama. He credits some of his early inspirations to his time spent with his family in church on Sunday’s, instilling in him the soul of gospel music. Also having an early interest in jazz, his music spans a broad harmonic range blending aspects from multiple genres and bringing them to the classical music stage.

He is a graduate of the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) with a degree in Instrumental Music Education. While at UAB, he was a member of the trumpet studio and studied with Dr. James Zingara (classical) and Dr. Steven Roberts (jazz). He was heavily involved within the Department of Music at UAB, preforming with numerous ensembles of diverse musical genres such as the UAB Marching Blazers, Symphony Band and Wind Symphony, Jazz Combo, Jazz Ensemble, the UAB Gospel Choir, Trumpet Ensemble I & II and the Blazer Brass Quintet.

As a composer and arranger, he has written instrumental works for various musical forces, ranging from wind ensemble, jazz ensemble and marching band to chamber groups such as string quartet, brass quintet and trumpet ensemble.

His compositions have been the recipients of many awards, as he has been a four time finalist for the Alabama Music Educators Association Young Composers Competition. He’s also had two abstracts/pieces accepted and performed at the National Council on Undergraduate Research Conference (2023/2024). He has also seen success in call for score submissions as he was one of the winners of the TMC and Diversify the Stand collaboration. He has also been named a semi - finalist for the ASCAP 2023 and 2024 Morton Gould Young Composers Award.

He is currently a graduate student at Louisiana State University, studying under Drs. Brian Raphael Nabors and Mara Gibson. His previous composition teachers/mentors include Dr. William Price (UAB), Dr. Matthew Scott Phillips (UAB), Steve Danyew, Marie Douglas, Kincaid Rabb, and Dr. Kevin Day.
